Some would describe it as a fish as old as the mountains in whose shadows it swims. They have certainly been here since the retreat of the glaciers some 10,000 years ago.
It certainly is a beautiful fish, E Donovan author of A Natural History of British Fish 1802 - 1808 describes the Welsh Char or Torgoch as it is known in this area as:
"Of an elegant and somewhat slender shape, the head long and rather pointed, and it's colour splendid beyond all example of the indigenous fishes of the country"
Beautiful it certainly is, the variation in colour throughout the season is something to behold.
That's the reason why some of us spend so much time in it's pursuit.
